FAQs

What is Haddenham?

Haddenham is the only place FSC actually owns. It's a collection of buildings, workshops and barns on the fens in Cambridgeshire, backed by an area of woodland we planted called Fenwood. We store all our equipment there, clean, fix and pack camps, and train new staff.

What happens there?

The work at Haddenham each month helps keep FSC running, because we couldn't send camps out without the amazing volunteers. The work is organised by the Storesmen, Alex and Christy, and a team of people run the different 'bays' and co-ordinate everything from mending tents to sharpening axes, cleaning pegs to coiling hoses.

Why would I want to come?

Stores weekends are a great opportunity to learn new skills and see the behind-the-scenes work of FSC. It's also really fun! It is wonderful to get out into the countryside and camp on Fenwood, amongst trees planted by other FSC volunteers almost 10 years ago.

Alongside their work, volunteers at Haddenham spend their time singing, playing games, seeing old friends and meet new people. We always have music and glee, ceilidhs, drinking round fires in the evening and amazing food.

Does it cost anything?

We want you to come join us, so costs are never a barrier to anyone coming. The weekend is catered from Friday night to Sunday lunch, and we can refund any reasonable travel expenses.

When is it?

The next Haddenham will be:

10-12th June 2016

Later weekends:

1-3rd July 2016

After that we take a break over summer and will be back in September.

How do I get there?

If you're from London, a coach leaves from York Way next to Kings Cross. Aim to get there for 7.45pm as it leaves at 8pm.

To book a space, get in touch on the Facebook group or message James Keith on 07796867175 (this is also the number to ring if you're going to be late so the coach doesn't leave without you).

And if I'm not from London?

The nearest station to Haddenham is Ely, and it is then a short drive to stores. We would be happy to refund reasonable expenses, you just need to keep a receipt and fill out a form in the office once you arrive.

Aim to arrive around 9pm and once you know when you will arrive, text or call Maddy on 07741490065 or the Haddenham landline on 01353740600 with as much notice as possible to organise a lift.

What should I bring?

Bring a tent, a sleeping bag, warm clothes and any alcohol you fancy (there is normally a booze run on Saturday so you could also bring some money).

Don't worry about bringing eating things, the kitchen has hundreds of mugs, plates and cutlery, and there are also tonnes of blankets, hot water bottles, carrymats and even (slightly falling apart) tents you can borrow if you need to.

Who can come?

Anyone is welcome!

Pathfinders (16-17) need to bring a disclaimer signed by a parent so we can be sure they know where you are, and anyone younger than that needs to be accompanied by a parent.

We love non-FSCers too as long as they're happy to work as well as play.
